Dennis Sullivan
Dennis Sullivan was the fire chief during the quake and fire. Before the earthquake, Dennis warned the city council about how vulnerable San Francisco was to fire. It was really windy, with steep hills, and the wooden water pipes often crossed the San Andreas fault line. The city council ignored his warning, a major mistake in the long run.
During the quake, the hotel next door to the firehouse's chimney fell into the bedrooms of the firehouse. When he was trying to save his wife and children, Dennis fell to the first floor and was scalded by a boiler. He never regained consciousness and four days later, he perished.
