Enrico Caruso was a famous Italian tenor who sang "Carmen" at the San Francisco Opera House the night before the quake. He woke up the next morning to his bed rocking and thought he was on a boat to Italy, but quickly realized he was wrong. He made it out just fine, but vowed never to come back to San Francisco. He never did.
