When it happened
The earthquake happened when San Francisco's population was really high, at 400,000 people. Chinatown was especially packed. Because of Opium Wars, Chinese came to get away from that and to find a safe place to live but after the earthquake, many people were left homeless and even more died. Some left, but those who stayed definitely made San Francisco beautiful again.
